Unearthing Human Nature
Vedanta is a science which deals with human beings. An encyclopaedia which has the compilation of subtle transcendental thoughts, rendered by several enlightened sages of India. These greats dedicated their lives thousands of years ago to contemplate upon the mystery of human origin. Their inner nature. The purpose of human existence. Where would the culmination of human happiness be?
The effort of such crystalline contemplation has culminated in the Vedanta philosophy. Laws governing human life and the world are the base of philosophy. A knowledge which helps humans unearth their true nature. Shoulders them step by step using the intellect to break the barriers of dense ignorance created by the mind. Eventually, revealing one’s true nature, the Self. The ultimate abode of peace and happiness.
Today, the world over alma maters and mushrooming educational institutions are providing information. No doubt it is valuable to earn wealth and mark the external progress of nations. But limit students in their rational approach and application of the knowledge provided. Very few truly implement the knowledge gained. Which outcomes only in improving the world and its facilities. Rest is bred and led by the environment. Only to become victims of contemporaneity, affliction and impending perils.
Needless to mention, the individual’s personal growth has been retarded. Therefore, educator’s world over must investigate if the essence of pedagogy in education has been complied with. Initially, professionals have the zest to get jobs at prestigious organisations. Later become victims of the mind and fall prey only to fulfil their desire driven demands. Whereby, one’s true aptitude remains stifled. This approach disallows one to flourish in one’s natural field. Furthermore, it hinders success.
Using bookish knowledge has no doubt raised the standard of human living. With the idea of earning wealth to have better amenities, home, surroundings etc. Humans are surely indulging in the modern world. But are they happy? By their own admission people have lost their morals, peace, cheer… Standard of life has deteriorated to a substantial level. Creation of wealth leads to an insecure feeling. Lack of understanding of their present state. Humans are further driven by irresistible greed of the mind to acquire more. This ungoverned endeavour continues, finally to find oneself in a quagmire of problems.
The Unrestrained Mind
People find themselves tormented by this deadly trait of the unrestrained mind. There has hence been no explanation to frequent questions posed by the affected common persons. ‘Why did x perpetrate a scam, when one already had millions?’. ‘Why did y ruling the country amass ill-gotten wealth?’. The human mind turns deadly when left unattended to make decisions by itself. Hence has and can further devour millions, billions, nay trillions. 
Without paying heed to consequences, whereby all others living in the world get affected the most. Take a look at history. Try and relate to the en number of issues created by a deadly, isolated mind. Isn’t it evident that the mind needs to take in different kinds of knowledge? Be guided and supervised by a higher entity?
The modern society bargains, but hardly has any time to relate to one’s family. They create a monster of work and therein lead an imbalanced life. People lack higher values and hence are unable to handle the challenges of life and even work. Mostly, amongst well-educated and the rich, depression and stress related ailments have risen to alarming proportions. Not to talk about divorce, which has reached record breaking numbers world-wide. A spouse complains of various faults in one’s spouse. Also, blame working extended hours, which eats into the family time. This today has become a reason good enough to divorce. However, it is unrelated to initiate a divorce proceeding.
The Problem Lies Elsewhere
Being imbalanced in handling affairs at home. CEO’s hired for enormous salaries, get only half their personalities at work. When at work, their minds are working at home. When at home, the mind is at work. Ironically, they still claim full salaries. Productivity is at-most 50 percent at work. Then how about taking half the salary! Is it not immoral conduct to take more without producing the commensurate result. One should ponder at the damaging behavioural patterns in humans. The number of social crimes, including those among the young, are on the rise. Think, what is the use of such modernisation which lacks sound and ethical values. Beset with jealousy and envy towards close family members and colleagues at work.
It seems as though true and genuine feelings belong to the past. Love and kindness is rare today. While superficial emotions have inundated the personality. Life would be meaningful when one has material wealth and objects. Which is happily shared and taken as a duty.
A little kindness from humans to fellow humans makes a world of difference. Keeps you calm. To decode these predicaments and experience sound sleep. Is it that time and again advice is sought from better psychologists, elders or influential personalities. Many have tried and are still searching. This search seems unending. Until one day, for some, the fire to liberate oneself from all the above shackles gets larger. Then probably one starts looking elsewhere. If they come across the knowledge of Vedanta. Then this knowledge maintains the required gravity to stay balanced, even amongst the greatest challenges at work and family front. A knowledge that has a solution to all the dichotomy confronting human life. Vedanta unties knots of life’s unanswered questions. Prepares you for the Self journey. An analysis of the world today. Should evoke humans to feel and think of the present situation.
A Closer Look
Take a look at the charity structure. It should ideally be the confluence of feeling and thinking which results in action to give back to society in a methodical way. Research needs to be initiated to resolve the whirlwind of present problems. By starting charity enclaves to merely superimpose it on the company’s social responsibility is not a solution. Then there are those who give to NGO/ organisations which appeal emotionally to support their cause. This has become and remains a trend. Seldom the donor looks into the effect and effort of the organisation. Much less the progress of how the efforts are alleviating problems. Genuine philanthropists share their wealth. Although, there are few who use the charity received towards conscientious work.
Then there are those who are doing diligent service. But are not able to reach the bottom of the problem. Applying balm to a wound is calming. But that will not help in getting to the source of the disease. What is surprising, little or almost nothing has been provided for true education, which uplifts the society at large. Such education is barely recognised, therefore least supported. People the world over give to organisations which are engaged in work in the field of all physical related ailments, emotionally impaired, places of worship to satisfy their emotions towards their personal deity and educational institutions where they have been alumni’s. Their giving lacks thinking. They give where tangible results are seen. Very few care about intellectual education. An education which is beyond the precincts of secular education provided by schools and institutions. Alternatively, an education which introduces a human being to oneself. This education creates awareness in a human to ethically and socially deal with the world. To respect others, serve them. Instead of snatching from society, that which is not yours. An education which recognises the role of all religions in this world. Which does not pit people from different religious backgrounds against each other. To further create social unrest in the society. An education which deals with the root of all the problems confronted today. The fruit of such education may not be visibly tangible. But surely it uproots the disease from its root. The education of Vedanta totally relies on self-effort and consistency of application of the human intellect in one’s respective field. Only such growth is termed organic. When it causes the intellect to guide the mind.
The Need of the Hour
Delve deeper in thought. The educated should mull over what has been the cause for poverty, crimes, rapes, stress, divorces… These unfortunate events in some manners have gripped all families in the world. What’s the point of giving figures, is it helping the populace to solve anything? A woman is raped every 6 min in the world or 10 min in a particular country. A femicide every 7 hours! Crime perpetrated on children is on the rise. Children are not cooperating with parents. Waiting to leave homes the moment they reach the periphery of youth. Never to return. Even to help their old and ailing parents. Therefore, the necessity of building a value system in such a society is to be looked into imminently. The good and spiritual side of humans has to be tapped. This will then change the perception of persons by changing their thinking. Furthermore, who knows, it may change the world! Vedantic knowledge is the only way humans can redeem themselves. Bring back the lost glory and make this world an abode of service, love and spreading of Self-knowledge. These essential developed qualities make it conducive for humans to reach their true Self.
There is a saying: You cannot reach God unless you love the expressions of God. The objective of Vedantic talks and study is to inculcate in humanity the essential knowledge of life and smart living. Evoke humanity in humans. Instilling these higher values in people, uplifts society as a whole. Developing peace, dynamism, prosperity and harmony. These are not tall claims. But a natural effect. Vedanta creates socially awakened humans, and not those who socially gather crowds to put up a show of charity.
Vedanta renders clarity to even genuine charitable organisations and individuals to choose and refine their efforts. Only a socially awakened person can bring about a change in the system. Corruption, evading taxes, clean drinking water, malnutrition, hygiene, woman safety, divorces, child disconnect and several other maladies confronting the modern society at large. Can be then resolved by individuals themselves. Even governments and top corporations will join such endeavours, when they are aware of the background of persons who are at the helm of affairs. Genuinely wanting to serve the society to alleviate and one day eliminate these issues. And desires nothing for oneself.
With the aid of such awakened humans to help resolve these stark realities of today. Probably, the whole world will join this endeavour in bringing a better life for the next generation. One can observe a keen sense of worldly hunger in the youth. In this materialistic world. Vedanta also educates on the technique to handle prosperity. The desire to capture the wind of name and fame. Where one is craving to be powerful. Right from the beginner youth in one’s life, to the president of a nation is keen to be in power eternally. Vedanta helps one consolidate one’s position at every level and field. Educates humans on what is true Power. Sets the right direction to reach It.
For the Youth
The future of every country is its youth. A dream of all parents that their children be successful and happy in their aptly chosen endeavours. Parents must pause for a moment and look behind at the legacy they leave for children. Asian families in recent times are leaving a tradition of debts for their children. Westerners, a tradition of separation in relationships, angst in their behavioural habits and pills to pop anxiety. The youth get influenced by any one higher in stature. Children by parents. A young nation by government leaders. The ambitious by the rich and famous, the glitterati, movie stars, sporting icons… They want to emulate everything these heroes do. It is hereby the responsibility of all these leaders to leave trails of culture and wisdom that follows sound reason. Social media has become the death knell of values. A harbinger of sorrow. A disease which is eating up the concentration of youth and even adults. Use it, but one should know when not to get abused by it! An effort has to be made to save the youth. They become leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, we should not face the same issues which have remained unresolved for generations. Albert Einstein made an apt, wise statement: ‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them’. Oh folks! It is time for you to wake up. Educate yourselves with the knowledge of Vedanta. Lead the way then to inspire generations to come. Only when one moves out of a dark cave. One experiences light. Everyone then would want to move from ignorance to enjoy the light of the Self within. It is therefore time to go back only to move forward in Time.
